Single or Taken: The 5 Minute Rule

Recently being admitted to grad school, I was flogged through a bunch of socials, orientation events, and a variety of other icebreakers where I’m supposed to meet my fellow classmates and get to know them. Forced social interaction is just one of those things that I loathe. Thankfully, life and acting classes has allowed me to appear pleasant enough to go through just enough of the social graces to prevent me from being an outcast. Yay society.

However, while I’m being flogged through said social events, my mind starts to wander and assessing random thoughts and ideas. While being introduced to Whoeverthe Hellyouare who graduated from Idontcareatall University, you start realizing a few certain things. This is why I can confidently say that within 5 minutes in a social situation, I can tell whether you’re single or not.

See Siri. See Siri Run.

I dislike Macs. I really do. I’m not a fan of their design aesthetic, I’m not a fan of their OS, and I’m really not a fan of people who are slaves to Apple and people who buy Macs because “they’re pretty”. That said, I am supremely impressed with their devices. The iPod, iPad, and the iPhone revolutionized their respective markets. No matter how you argue it, I don’t think you can argue against the drastic impact that these devices have had not only on technology, but on culture as well.

I know that the iPhone 4S wasn’t a drastic upgrade, but for me, I had the 3GS, it was time for an upgrade, and the most intriguing thing about the iPhone 4S was Siri. Listen, ever since I read Batman, I’ve always wanted an Alfred. Since I’m not a billionaire, I can’t have my own butler/bodyguard/manservant/trainer of heroes with me, so I’ll have to settle for Siri. I was cautiously optimistic, but voice recognition technology has failed me before.

A Buddy Comedy, starring Cancer: A Review of 50/50

(Only about a month late)

First off, I just have to preface this with the fact that I am a huge fan of Joseph Gordon-Levitt. I’m a huge fan of his, and I personally think that he’s the everyman actor of my generation. A blog post about this is in the works, but anyways, on to the movie.

I’ve been looking forward to this movie since I first saw the previews. I had a feeling it was one of those indie films that had the feel-good sentiment that allowed a studio to really punch it up. I was a bit hesitant when I found out that Seth Rogen signed on, but I had faith that Gordon-Levitt could carry the film, and indeed, he does. The fact that Anna Kendrick is in this little gem is just the cherry on top.

A Football Game Review, I’m Obviously Talking about FIFA 12

Madden? Madden was sooooo middle school.

As a hipster, I’m pretty sure your sports game of choice can’t be Madden, or anything as mainstream as NBA 2k, or anything related to baseball. Until they come out with Jai Alai 13, real hipsters are just out of luck. I guess if you want to be ironic, you could Wii the crap out of Tiger Woods PGA Tour. For the Pop Culture Hipster, it’s FIFA all the way. It’s just mainstream enough to actually have EA give a shit about making it a good game, and obscure enough where you can listen to the commentary and act like a complete douchebag know-it-all when you talk about football soccer with your friends.

Anyways, let’s get to the review.
