Women We’ll Never Date: Elizabeth Henstridge
I’m a huge dork. A huge unrepentant dork. As such, I love comic books and while the recent surge in superhero films has been a nice surprise, the results have been mixed to say the least. However, when ABC decided to put Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on the small screen, my interest was immediately piqued. The show is a pretty decent blend of Alias type hijinks with a lot of references to the Marvel universe. In short, I am the target demographic, and I’m in, hook, line, and sinker.
My newest TV crush is a direct product of the show. Fitzsimmons is the show’s answer to 007’s Q. Agent Jemma Simmons, the female and devastatingly adorable half of Fitzsimmons is really just targeted at me I feel. According to show backlore she is a biology and biochem expert (hello, right up my alley) and is a shining example of geek chic (see those Chuck Taylors she’s wearing?). Her nerdiness is disarming and as some who’s actually a nerd I somehow believe that I would have a chance with this character.
But, Ms. Henstridge is a Hollywood actress, who is still ridiculously attractive. This is before factoring in her incredibly sexy British accent, which just puts her over the top. Accents just do it for me (e.g. Yvonne Strahovski), it’s my kryptonite. But of course, Ms. Henstridge is simply playing a character, who I find incredibly attractive. In my imagination, I guess we could save the world together, but then again, I’m a grown man and not a secret agent.
And that’s why Elizabeth Henstridge is a woman that we’ll never date.
