Mailbag: Errant Questions
So after the first few thousand hits on the blog (which, thank you all, the response has been amazing) I’ve decided to go with a tried and true method of writing a post answering reader questions. Most of these have filtered in through email, some in person, and I’ve paraphrased the most common ones. I’ll try to get to everything, but no promises. Questions are in BOLD, and here we go:
Are you single?
Single by choice?
I’d say 80-20 by choice.
Do you write everything on this blog?
There’s been one post that’s been written by another author, and honestly, I’ve been trying to find some other authors to help contribute and and some more quality content, but yes, I am the author of these posts.
Why is your posting schedule so erratic?
Well, because my life is a bit erratic, and professional blogger doesn’t really sound that appealing to me. I really do try to write every day though, most days, I just feel like what I write isn’t good enough to post. You should see the number of drafts I have saved to work on.
OK, back to the single thing, are you gay or straight?
You write about style a bit, why is it that some guys, for lack of a better term, think that style is ‘gay’?
Well, the fact that those aforementioned ‘guys’ used ‘gay’ as a pejorative, which really speaks to the class of those individuals. The fuck, are we in middle school? Some men don’t understand masculinity. They peg their self-worth to what they perceive as ‘masculine’. To me, masculinity is about expressing who you are respectfully and knowing what you want and working to achieve those goals. An individual’s style is a reflection of who they are. To say that you don’t care about style means that you don’t care about the way that you present yourself to the world. I’m not saying that there is a defined style for all men, but every individual should find their own. So many of the great individualists had great style (i.e. Hemingway) I’m not speaking as an expert, I’m just speaking to my own aesthetic.
Do you get paid to recommend certain items or paid at all to write this blog?
Nope, nothing, nada, zilch. I can guarantee you that I have zero financial motives to write this blog.
How do you get random people to get to your blog?
I get a surprising number of hits from Google. The biggest search term that gets me hits to this blog is “anna kendrick”. I guess I was ahead of the curve hopping on her bandwagon. Then I have a bunch creepy searches, like “18 year olds on tinder”. Not especially proud of those.
