Women We’ll Never Date: Rachel Bilson
Like every other adult around my age, I think we all remember the time that we were swept up into the national zeitgeist around the teen soap “The O.C.”. Who could forget the adventures of a troubled youth who moved to the ritzy neighborhoods of Orange County. Oh wait, everyone did? That pretty much sounds right.
My cover for watching the O.C. as a self-respecting guy was that the girl that I was dating at the time loved the show. I thought I was being incredibly smooth with the whole thing. Oh high school me, you stupid idiot. Anyways, people were fawning over Mischa Barton, but for me, it was always Rachel Bilson. It didn’t really help that I saw myself as a Seth Cohen type figure, a huge dork who loved toys and comic books. Back then, this whole nerd/dork thing on TV as a likeable lead was a revolutionary step. Of course, you then realize that while he is a huge geek, he’s also ridiculously handsome and attractive by every other standard, but when you’re young, you dream big, so Rachel Bilson, you stole my heart.
Her character, Summer Roberts, was immensely unlikable from the start, but she was absolutely hilarious, and developed into someone that was emotionally vulnerable, and y’know was played by an actress who could actually act, which is a rare find for a teen soap. Obviously, she’s extremely attractive, but that wasn’t really the big reason I was drawn to her.
My main reason for crushing so hard on her?
Her eyes. Her eyes are just so incredibly breathtaking. There was just something about them that drew me in. Captivating is the word that I’m looking for. And then there was the fact that she almost never smiled in her scenes, but when she did…wow. Those eyes and that smile, it was like feeling the sun on your face on the first warm day of spring. That familiar warmth that makes you jubilant, you could say it almost feels like….Summer.
See what I did there?
And that’s why she’s a woman we’ll never date.
